On June 16, rising girl group ILLIT held a media showcase for their comeback project ‘bomb.’ Ahead of the album’s release, the members answered some questions and shared thoughts on creating the album.
After individual and group press photos, the members shared their excitement about their first comeback this year.
Yunah: “First, thank you so much for taking time out of your very busy schedules to join our media showcase. Including the album dropping today, we've already released three albums. It feels really proud to have done that, but honestly we're mostly excited to see how fans will react. So we'll do our best so please look forward to our promotion.”
Wonhee: “I am very excited to show everyone a new side of us. Our third mini-album ‘bomb’ showcases ILLIT’s confidence and how much we've grown, so make sure you stay tuned.”
Minju: “Our third mini-album ‘bomb’ captures many new sides of ILLIT and I can't wait to share them with you. You'll still see ILLIT’s signature vibe and color, but it will be in a more elevated way, so please make sure to check it out.”
Iroha: “This is our first comeback this year, so I'm very nervous and excited. We received so much love last year, so I really wanted to show my appreciation by doing my best on this album. We've prepared that much more and will do our best throughout this promotion.”
Moka: “I'm really looking forward to promoting our third mini-album. First and foremost, I sincerely think GLLIT for having waited so long. While preparing for this album, I couldn't wait to finally share these songs with our fans. That's how hard we worked for this album, which is full of songs that we are confident about.”
ILLIT’s third mini-album, ‘bomb,’ consists of five tracks in total: “Billyeoon Goyangi (Do The Dance),” “little monster,” “jellyous,” “oops!,” and “bamsopoong.”
Minju described "Do The Dance" as a song that captivates audiences, highlighting its dreamy intro and the addictive hook and beat that runs throughout.
She added, “The lyrics are a key highlight of the song as well. You'll hear French phrases that sound almost like magical spells. If you pay attention to those unique expressions, you'll feel the songs’s cute and charming appeal.”
For Yunah, she found “Do The Dance” as refreshingly surprising as their debut single “Magnetic” was when she first heard it.
“Thinking about the song’s meaning, I found that expression quirky yet cute. But I liked it a lot, and I feel like it brings out ILLIT’s unique color even more.”
Moka then shared, “There is a moment in the intro where the beat suddenly kicks in harder, and that part was so good that it gave me chills.”
“I also really like the meaning behind the English title. Even though you're nervous and feel like a borrowed cat, you don't want things to end on an awkward note, so you boldly do the dance to show your interest. So that moment really captures ILLIT’s bold and confident charm.”
Asked to define ILLIT's music, Wonhee stated: “honesty.”
“In ‘Magnetic,’ which was our debut song, we boldly expressed our feelings to someom he liked. In ‘Cherish (My Love),’ in the second album, we said that our own feelings of affection were what truly mattered. And in ‘Do The Dance,’ too, we don't hide how we feel towards the other person. Instead we face it head on, showing that same honest confident attitude of ILLIT.”
Yunah says that ILLIT's relatable stories are why many listeners find the group approachable and familiar.
“Our music reflects what people our age are going through. But at the same time, it touches on experiences that anyone might have had at some point, and that's what makes it so easy for listeners to connect with.”
Iroha added, “We think this signature choreography that matches the catchy melody makes it even more fun to enjoy ILLIT’s music.”
